Attalos Suites Hotel is ideally placed to explore most of Bergama’s main attractions on foot. It stands on a tranquil, attractive, cobblestone Old Town (Eski Şehir) street. The Red Basilica (Kızıl Avlu), an enormous Roman temple and one of the town’s most outstanding landmarks, is just a delightful short 5-10 minute walk downhill. İzmir Caddesi, the main commercial street with restaurants, shops, and entrance to the Bergama Archaeological Museum, is only ten minutes from here on foot.
The biggest walkable sight is the Acropolis of Pergamon, which is a UNESCO world heritage base. The base station for the Akropol Teleferik (cable car) is 10-15 minute on foot from the hotel. A fast and modern cable car, with panoramic views, gets you up the mountain to the spectacular ruins and saves you from a long, hot climb or an expensive taxi ride. This amazing convenience enables you to go and see the Acropolis first thing in the morning before the tourist buses and before it gets very hot.
The neighborhood on its own is a real pleasure. One can go on walking for hours through the Old Town’s narrow, winding streets to stumble upon historic houses, small mosques, and wonderful photo opportunities. Regarding food, while the hotel serves an excellent dinner, you are only a short distance from various highly recommended local restaurants and cafes.
